On Tuesday, 3/24/2020, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors passed a temporary emergency countrywide Eviction Moratorium, for non-payment of rent due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. This Emergency Resolution covers both incorporated & unincorporated parts of San Mateo County (meaning cities, towns, the entire county).
The Moratorium is in effect until June 30th (unless extended by the Governor). Any new or existing eviction notices that have not expired are now covered by the emergency resolution. Tenants must still notify their landlords of their inability to pay for COVID-19 related impacts (or from government action related to COVID-19). Tenants will have up to 90 days, with the possibility of an additional 90 day extension, to pay remaining balances after the end of the emergency resolution.
